St Joseph’s National School Miltown Malbay is a 6 teacher co – educational national primary school. It is situated on the Mullagh Road, on the outskirts of the town of Miltown Malbay in the west of Clare. Built in 1963 the school building was completely refurbished in 2008. The refurbished school building is a bright, warm, user friendly place in which teachers and students carry on the business of learning in a comfortable and safe environment.
St Joseph’s has 6 full time teachers, 5 classroom teachers and one full time learning support teacher. As well as all the usual curriculum subjects the school offers the opportunity to avail of lots of extra curricular subjects. French classes are taught to all classes from 2nd – 6th by Olga Fay. Irish traditional music classes are taught every week by Aoibheann Murphy. All classes take part in swimming lessons at Lahinch Seaworld. The classes are undertaken in blocks of 8 weeks to ensure continuity of learning by our students.
Gaelic football is coached after school by a number of staff members and teams are entered in all Cumann Na mBunscoil competitions with both boys and girl’s teams taking part.
Green schools is a very strong area in the life of St Joseph’s National School and there is a very strong and busy Green Schools committee working in the school.
In 2013 we officially became an active school. Our blue flag takes pride of place in the school.Apart from the above, the children in our school go on various school outings both of an educational and also recreational nature. Trips to Glór in Ennis, school tours, woodland walks, farm visits, climbing Carrauntwohil are all part of the school year in St Joseph’s National school.
